From President Kale Alderson
Summer 2009
Greetings
It's been an interesting year. Here we are two weeks from the end of the 2008/2009 school year and the only thing we know for sure is that education in California is in grave danger.
The public is tired of the budget schemes and shell games being played in Sacramento and made their anger known on May 19th with the defeat of all propositions aimed at "balancing" the budget. Two-thirds of those people who voted said "no more".
It's time for solutions, not quick fixes or band-aids. California is the worlds 8th largest economy. If we want to continue on as an economic power we can't keep using education as the sacrificial lamb to balance our State's out of control budget. Sacramento needs legislators willing to work together to solve our financial problems without destroying our future.
Voters need to hold their representatives responsible for making decisions that will improve conditions for all Californians. Bottom line is this; it is your vote that rings loudest in your legislator's ears. Without you, they would not be in Sacramento. Call, write or go visit your representative in Sacramento. Tell them your story.
These are extraordinary times that call for extraordinary actions. DO SOMETHING. This is not a time to stay on the sidelines, or remain quiet. DO SOMETHING.
As my tenure as President of Region 6 ACSA comes to a close I wish to thank all of you who have given your support this past year. I especially want to say thank you to an extraordinary executive team that made the job fun and rewarding. Also, thank you to the Region 6 Board of Directors for your input and your support of your professional organization.
Have an enjoyable summer.
Kale
